Charoltte's Waffle House

Image
This song is called Charlotte's Waffle House It's about a play with Charlotte and a Waffle House But Charlotte's Waffle House was not the name of the play it's just the name of the song. And this song is not Alice's Restaurant  either 'Cause it has nothing to do with Alice... or the restaurant... But Alice's Restaurant was the name of the song written by Arlo Guthrie in 1967 and it went like this... "You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant. You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant. Walk right in it's behind the back half mile up from the rail road track and you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant." Now I wrote a play that included that song and Charlotte and The Waffle House and it was called the Waffle House Index. And it was one year ago one year ago on Thanksgiving when my family and I were heading up to the farm to go celebrate thanksgiving. We listened to that song ...

Oh My People Are Voting For Me! Quick Let's Meet at the Blog!

Some brief messages. First a thank you to my mom for spreading the vote around, and another thank you to everybody who has been voting for soul rep for the Irma P Hall black theater awards. The stories that Soul Rep tells are incredibly important and it's vital that they get the recognition they deserve. I'd also like to thank them for taking a chance on me and letting me work and learn how to be a sound designer. The nomination means so much to me, not just for my career but as a pay off for all the work I put in and for all the work I will put into my future. Thank you to everyone. And go Soul Rep!!! (oh and me... but mostly Soul Rep.)

The Melancholy of Friendship (Poem)

Two friends in a room of their own design Filled with colors and ideas of their own creation "I love you" said one. "I love you too" said the other. "Why must we leave?" said one. "We have no choice" said the other. "But why?" said one. "How else can we add to the room" said the other. "Will the room still be here when we are gone?" said one. "We'll know when we get back" said the other. "The apocalypse is coming" said one. "I know" said the other. "I love you" said one. "I love you too" said the other. And then the world ended...

Why H.P. Lovecraft is a Masterpiece

(Just letting you know this is an essay for class but I thought it was good so I posted it online.)              H.P. Lovecraft was a pulp sci-fi writer from the 1920s who is arguably one of the greatest influences on modern horror. While he was not the best when it came to his prose he most certainly is a master of world building. As the author who invented Cthulhu and the Necronomicon, he is one of the first modern writers to create shared universe for all of his works. He is an inspiration for people like Neil Gaiman and Stephen King, and also he is the basis for a lot of board games.             A typical H.P. Lovecraft story follows a very formulaic structure. An every man ("The Call of Cthulhu", "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward", "Dagon") or an anthropologist ("At the Mountains of Maddness", "Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family") are either about to go insane or are already insane and will proce...

Why You Have to Play Diplomacy Before You Die

Image
Once upon a time in the spring of 1901 there were seven nations. There was England, France, Germany,Austria Hungary, Russia, Italy and then there was of course me the Ottoman Empire. And there was also the Daily Reader which is nothing more than a pack of yellow journalism and lies! But I digress... Now here's the map of the board: Turkey is right next to Russia and Austria. It is also incredibly easy for Italy to send some boats out and stab me with Austria's help. So I needed a plan. I needed to prove the Ottomans we're not just the sick man of Europe. So I hatched a plan. I talked to the Russians and told them this. Shortly after that same day Russia had something to do, and conveniently I found my self in a room with Germany, Austria, and England and I said that we all had one common enemy the Russians. So why not take care of a mutual enemy. And so we agreed to the treaty of Istanbul. But Germany was skeptical he could easily go either way. S...
